An Information Technology (IT) system is a structured setup of hardware, software, and peripheral devices used to store, process, retrieve, and communicate information. It can function as an information system, communication system, or computer system, operated by IT users. The concept of information technology, in its modern sense, was first introduced in 1958 by Harold J. Leavitt and Thomas L. Whisler in the Harvard Business Review.
